Pakistan calls for enhanced economic cooperation with Iran

Islamabad, May 3, Pakistan Monday called for the involvement of the private sectors of Pakistan and Iran in the process of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh suggested cooperation with Iran in a meeting with Amir Mansour Borghei, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, the Finance Ministry said.
Borghei arrived in Islamabad Sunday as leader of six-member delegation for Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission.
Pakistani advisor said that Pakistan wants to benefit from the positive achievements of Iran in certain economic sectors.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Hafeez Shaikh said that Pakistan values its brotherly relations with Iran and wants to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of commerce, trade and finance, a statement from the Finance Ministry said.
Reciprocating the sentiments of Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Amir Mansour, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, said that both the countries need to regularize financial and economic cooperation.
He welcomed the suggestions by Dr. Hafeez Shaikh for involvement of private sectors of both the countries in the process of economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed the hope that leading private entrepreneurs of Iran would welcome this offer.
The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister also offered to extend his country’s cooperation in the sectors of oil exploration and energy development in Pakistan.
Official sources say that Iranian delegation will discuss the country's possible cooperation to help resolve the Pakistani energy crisis.
Pakistan faces some 4500 MW power shortage, which has resulted into some 12-hour power outage in main cities.
