Shanghai Expo opportunity to boost two-way ties with China & Pakistan says will get SCO membership next year

Iran’s Minister of Commerce Mehdi Ghazanfari said the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai is a proper opportunity for furthering Iran-China cooperation.
Ghazanfari made the remark while addressing the ceremony on Iran’s National Pavilion Day at the Shanghai Expo in the presence of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Referring to Iran as one of the effective countries in the Middle East region and the world, Ghazanfari said the country has taken important strides in economic development.
The Shanghai 2010 World Expo being in China opened on May 1 and will run until October 31, 2010. Iranian President who took part in the Expo arrived in Tehran early on Saturday, June 12.
---Pakistan says will get SCO membership next year
Islamabad, Jun 13, Pakistan to get membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) next year in its Summit meeting, a top diplomat has said.
Pakistan was granted observer status in 2005.
The SCO is a Regional Organization bringing together China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir says that in the wake of new membership criterion approved at SCO summit at Tashkent, his country will hopefully be granted the membership next year.
Bashir said the SCO Summit declaration has devised rules and regulations for admittance of new member states that will open the doors for Pakistan and other observer states.
The SCO, founded in 2001 in Shanghai, seeks to promote peace and stability in the region. Combating terrorism, extremism and organized crime have received greater attention by the SCO in recent years.
The Organization has also been able to further expand its mandate to include economic and cultural cooperation. It has also extended its outreach to include Observers and Dialogue Partners.
